A Somerset-based willow furniture and basket manufacturing company has expanded into new premises with a seven-figure funding package.
Bridgwater-based Somerset Willow received the package from HSBC UK, which allow it to move into a new purpose-built facility in Bridgwater. The purchase will provide the business with a 60% increase in warehouse space, and the capacity to double its 32-person workforce over the next five years.

The company, which has been operating for over 60 years, was founded by two generations of the Hill family. The firm initially produced hot air balloon baskets but has since diversified into a wide range of products.
Anthony Hill, managing director at Somerset Willow, said: “We’ve banked with HSBC UK since the business started in 1959, and this move has allowed us to expand into projects we previously weren’t able to do, evolve more traditional parts of the business, and provide better facilities for our staff. We’re excited for the future of our family business.”
David Butler, business banking area director at HSBC UK, added: “Somerset Willow carries a longstanding legacy of great craftsmanship and innovation, and this funding will allow the business to continue its upward growth trajectory and expansion of its product range. We look forward to continuing the long-standing support we have provided Somerset Willow as the business undoubtedly continues to thrive.”
In 2006, the business began growing its own willow and has a production company called Somerset Willow Growers, in addition to an import arm of the business for mass orders, Natural Woven Products.
