Growing North East law firm is set to invest £1m into a city centre base as part of expansion plans.
Burnetts Solicitors LLP is to move from its current base at Newcastle’s Dean Street to the 1 Citygate building at Gallowgate, which has undergone a multimillion-pound refurbishment programme. The company is set to move to its new base on the seventh floor of the building early in the new year, following a fit-out to match its Carlisle office. The new base will have more than 60 work stations as well as meeting rooms, a hub where staff can gather and an eatery.
The company said the new look office will be created to ensure a “collaborative work environment” for the team and clients, and has been designed to take into account people being able to split their time between home and office working. Nick Gutteridge, managing partner, said the move was “to allow for the next period of growth.”

He added: “Dean Street has served us very well but we now need a larger space to enable us to create an environment where we can recruit and retain staff who buy into our culture and our values. At the same time we believe this will also work extremely well for our clients.”
Burnetts – which operates across banking, commercial property, corporate, employment and litigation sectors – will join organisations including Grainger Plc and the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities at 1 Citygate, which has benefited from a recent £2.9m investment.
The refurbishment for landlord Britannia Invest and asset manager Catella APAM has included new amenities and common areas on the ground floor, a new entrance and external landscaping.
