A planning manager for housebuilder Dandara has been appointed the Home Builders Federation’s (HFB) equality, diversity and inclusion ambassador for Wales.
Sean Taylor, who joined Dandara last year and covers Wales and the west of England, was nominated to take up the role for the home building industry’s principle trade body. Its members account for some 80% of all new homes built in England and Wales each year.
Mr Taylor’s equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) role will see him representing Wales at a UK level and participating in quarterly forums with industry figures to explore opportunities and shape new policies.
He has also set up a new forum for EDI in Wales. Mr Taylor said: “Having worked in the planning industry in Wales for the past 20 years, creating opportunities for increasing diversity is something I’m really passionate about. I’m excited to use this appointment to promote equality, diversity in the Welsh construction and planning industry.
“Before becoming the ambassador for the HBF I was already getting involved in promoting diversity and inclusion as part of my every-day work. Now I have the opportunity to work with a vast range of housebuilders who are also interested in championing EDI and illustrate the importance it has across the sector.”
He added: "It’s been exciting in recent years to see the construction industry step up and celebrate women in construction and the new opportunities stemming from this. It’s great inspiration and I believe now is the perfect time to push the EDI agenda and prioritise more diversity.”
Martin Smith, managing director, Dandara Wales and the west of England ,said: “It’s a credit to Sean’s hard work and passion to see him appointed as EDI ambassador for Wales, and we couldn’t be prouder. His commitment to inclusion has been invaluable to us, and we’re looking forward to supporting him in this new role.”
